Thanks to George Kiel, Sid Ashford, Luke Bonner and especially Matt Bonner.
Before the 2014-2015 NBA season began, our Editor-In-Chief George Kiel connected Matt Bonner and full-time shoe customizer Jake Danklefs at the San Antonio Spurs Media Day in late September. The meeting resulted in a discussion about a potential custom shoe for Matt Bonner to wear on Christmas Day against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now three months later, we finally unveil the Jake Danklefs-designed adidas Crazy 8“Christmas Day” custom shoe for Matt Bonner in addition to the behind-the-scenes process of everything it took to make this happen. Follow George Kiel through the evolution of this design over a three-month period in the video below and check out detailed photos of the custom-designed shoe.
Inspired by a few of Matt Bonner’s favorite things and his home state of New Hampshire, this adidas Crazy 8 “Christmas Day” Custom is comprised of a red and green Christmas-themed plaid – throughout the upper and on the toe area and heel – which is influenced by Bonner’s favorite pattern and fabric. Danklefs also incorporated “603” below the tongue in representation of the New Hampshire area code and Bonner’s jersey number 15 on the tongue in black and on the heel in red. Other features include a red heel tab and an Old Man of the Mountain graphic on the tongue, which symbolizes the series of five granite cliff ledges on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, that appeared to be the jagged profile of a face when viewed from the north.
Look for Matt Bonner to debut his new custom-designed shoe on Christmas Day, as the San Antonio Spurs play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder at 1:30 PM CT on ABC.
